OUR STORY

How We Began

To Love And Inspire all began with a dream. When I was a young boy, I felt a calling to try to make a positive difference in my world. I remember thinking, “I want to start a non-profit organization; not a business, but a non-profit.” I attended conferences in high school to develop a plan and was able to work with national leaders in student organizations to brainstorm and create direction for what I wanted to achieve.

I knew my broad goal was to make the world a better place, a place where everyone is loved and welcomed, but how to directly achieve this goal was a little more challenging for me to navigate.

At the same time as all of this, I was struggling with finding myself. It makes sense, then, that there was a connection between my personal identity and my organization’s identity: I didn’t know how we both fit in - or if we even did.

Thus, as To Love And Inspire began, I started to focus on mental health, attempting to provide messages of love, support, empowerment, and inspiration (this is where the name of the organization derived) to those in need. Although I thought this was a wonderful idea, it was too abstract to put into direct practice, leaving no real direction and guidance for To Love And Inspire. Thus, the organization has sat in this limbo space for the past few years.

In fact, in the Spring of 2019, I was talking about shutting it down in its entirety.

And then, some sort of queer magic happened:

Pride Month

2019 celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the act of revolution that launched the Gay Liberation Movement and successfully set in motion the fight for the social, cultural, and political advancement of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Great achievements have been made over the past 50 years. Brave revolutionaries have sacrificed their safety, security, and well-being in order to advocate for the same in others.

Unfortunately, however, LGBTQIA+ persons, and the community as a whole, continue to be met with hate, prejudice, and shame - and recent political and social occurrences has only made matters worse.
Our voices must not be silent.

A New Direction

As I, personally, have become comfortable in my own skin as a gay man after marrying the man of my dreams in December of 2018, it is only my duty to lead an organization that celebrates queer pride and fights for LGBTQIA+ acceptance, rights, and visibility.
